Chapter 14

The union hall was easy to find. We walked in. “Can we help you?” A man behind the desk asked.

“Some of your men said we needed to join the union and said to speak to Wayne Hall.”

“Mr. Hall's busy, I'll take care of you.”

“No, we need to see Mr. Hall.”

“Look you,” he said standing pointing his finger in my face. I grabbed it and broke it.

“I'll kill you...” these guys were reading from a script. I broke his arm, and ear tapped him.

I walked past the front desk, and down the hall to the door marked “President” and walked in. They were four goons in suits in the office.

“Mr. Hall?” I asked.

“Who wants to know?”

“Oh good, I have the right place.” I turned to Sergeant Adams, “You guys wait out here, so no one disturbs us.” He nodded and closed the door as he left.

“I said, who wants to know?”

“James Hermes, Mr. Hall, pleased to meet you. I'm afraid there's been a misunderstanding.”

He smiled, “I see you got my message.”

“Yes sir, I did. I thought I'd bring you my answer in person, since your men are unable to do so.”

He lost his smile, “What do you mean, unable?”

“Well, they are all at the Med-Center being put into Auto-Docs about now I would imagine.”

“So that's how it's gonna be?”

“It doesn't have to be, you can stop this before any more of your men get hurt, or you yourself winds up in a ward.” They all laughed.

“Boys, make an example out of him!” They all came at me. The first one swung a haymaker at where I used to be. I broke his arm, ruptured his diaphragm, and ear tapped. I broke the second man's leg, shoulder, and ear tapped. The third one pulled a knife and stabbed at my face. I let it slip past, stomping his foot, crushing it. I took his knife and pinned his hand to the table with it.

Hall reached into his desk drawer, so I kicked the desk while his hand was still in the drawer, pinning him between his desk and the wall.

“As I was saying, there has been a misunderstanding, and please don't threaten to kill me.”

“You don't know who you're messing with.”

“Please, tell me, so I can get this straightened out.”

“This goes all the way to the Earth union.”

“Well, they aren't here, and you are.

“Here's what’s going to happen. If I see a union sign at my plant, if I hear the word ‘union’ around my plant, if I read an article with the word union and Hermes in the same sentence, I'm coming back to see you. And next time, I will not be so nice.”

“You can't threaten me!”

“Why? You do it to others. You see, that's the problem. You think you are untouchable because you’re connected. Well, I don't play by those rules. I play by yours. You mess with my business, I mess with yours. You hurt my people, I put yours in the hospital.”

“I'm protected, you can't touch me.
